General Presentation
Diane Frankenstein, a children's literature specialist will talk about what reading can do for our children:

  • Teach them values e.g. kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, respect,
  • Enhance their imagination and creativity,
  • Develop their critical thinking, reading and writing skills,
  • Build their emotional intelligence,
  • Maximize their academic performance and potential and
  • Build confidence

Learn how we, as parents or educators can use good literature to:

  • Communicate with our children to understand their world and the way they see things and learn,
  • Encourage reading as a daily activity and
  • Enhance comprehension.

Book Talk Sessions
Books should be inspiring, not boring!  In this workshop, Diane is your personal book shopper. She will guide you in choosing successful books for your children.

In each workshop, Diane will:

  • Provide a special list of age appropriate books
  • Talk about the books and their valuable lessons and
  • Inform you about great authors

She will demonstrate how to use books to:

  • Develop and improve your skills in conversational reading with your child,
  • Ask questions to help develop your child's creative and critical thinking and
  • Communicate with your child.

Public Workshops

Stories for the Classroom
A special book talk session for primary school teachers.  Diane gives teachers a whirlwind tour of a great selection of read-aloud books for the classroom and books children can read on their own.  She will also suggest activities to promote comprehension and uses of literature in the classroom.

Private Workshops
Each program is designed to meet the school or organization's needs. Topics include:

About Diane Frankenstein

Diane Frankenstein, a specialist in Children's and Adolescent literature, holds a Master Degree in "Children's Literature and Language Arts", with a specialty in teaching the Holocaust to Adolescents through Literature. As part of her training, Diane developed a graduate degree in Children's Literature at San Francisco State University. Diane develops literature courses designed for parents, teachers, and health care practitioners, including counselors, physicians, and social workers who are interested in learning how to use literature to better understood and communicate with children. Through writing, conferences, lectures, and classes she builds a bridge of understanding between children and the adults in their lives. In addition she does private consulting to schools where she works with teachers in developing a dynamic and relevant literature component to their curriculum.
